Crowds are getting larger at the shopping malls and fashion houses in the Sylhet city with the Eid-ul-Fitr drawing nearer. The citizens come with friends and families to pick up Eid dresses, putting smile on the traders’ faces. Markets and shopping malls have been experiencing a heavy rush of customers who are on a buying spree ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the largest religious festivals of Muslims. Huge crowd was seen at different shopping malls, roadside shops and footpath markets in the Sylhet On Sunday as people from all walks of life were thronging there to make the best out of their shopping spree for celebrating the Eid festival.
Traffic around the shopping malls yesterday was terrible and the traffic system towards the shopping malls virtually collapsed from the afternoon.
Posh shopping malls including Hasan Market, Al-hamra Shopping City, Sylhet City Center, Moduban,Shukriya Market,Plaza,Kakoly Shopping City,Blue Water Shopping City,Sylhet Millenium, witnessed huge rush of shoppers on the day.Men and boys were seen busy in buying Panjabis, T-shirts and formal shirts from different brand shops including Maha,Plus Point, Texmart, Ecstasy, Cats Eye, Lubnan, Yellow, Arong, Anjans, Dorjibari, Westecs, Banglar Mela, Probortana, Sadakalo, Kay Kraft, Deshal, Deshi Dosh, Infinity, Rang, Nitto Upohar and Nagordola etc.
Amir ali a banker of Shibgong said he has come with his wife and children to Shukriya Market. He bought dresses and footwears for their children.He said the prices were higher than before, but did not appear to be too upset.”They (traders) usually charge more during the Eid season.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The Eid markets have been witnessing huge sales as people making rush to the shopping centers everywhere in Rangpur division even more than a couple of weeks ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
Leaders of different trade bodies at bigger markets, shopping malls, complexes and makeshifts markets said Eid shopping has reached at the peak amid tight security measures much ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity this year.
The shopping places have worn festive looks with rushing men, women,
girls, boys, students, youths and adolescents for buying items of own choice with huge enthusiasm creating traffic jams in every city and town.
Police control room sources said special traffic systems have been
launched along with deployment of adequate members of the law enforcement agencies and tightening security measures to enable the people marketing without any problem.
According to market sources and common buyers, price of clothes for males, females, babies and children is about 40 to 50 percent higher this time than that of previous year and increased price has almost no impact among the buyers.
In Rangpur city, people from all over the division are rushing to the Super Market, Maya Exclusive Fashion House, Golden Tower, ‘Rangan’, Zila Parishad Biponi Bitan, Shah Amanat Market, Jahaz Company Shopping Complex, ‘Karupannya’, City Plaza, Moti Plaza, Honumantola Market, Adi Janata, Bismillah Garments, Madina Garments and other aristocrat markets and shopping malls.Talking to BSS, young female buyers Konica, Mariyam, Sohagi, Taslima, Choitee, Tabassum, Deena and Kohinoor at different city markets here said price of clothes is higher this year compared to the previous year.
The businesspersons at bigger and sophisticated shopping malls said
selling is excellent this year because of continuous improvement in economic condition and increasing incomes of all people despite higher price.
Buyers at different markets said price of all Eid items, including clothes and shoes, for male, female, girls, adolescents, babies and children is higher this time than that of the previous years.
Selling of cosmetics and other goods has also reached at the peak now at the bigger and sophisticated shopping malls and traditional markets and the sale will further increase in the coming days.
The businessmen expressed satisfaction over sales of the Eid clothes, shoes, cosmetics and other goods and hoped that the sales would continue increasing in the coming days till the night before the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abul Kashem and Member-secretary of City Shop Owners’ Association Rezaul Karim Milan said Eid shopping has reached its highest peak in the divisional city as elsewhere in the division.
Similar reports of huge sales in the Eid markets are being reported from Dinajpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts in the division.
