Md Mahabub Alam :Some local renowned brands are reportedly cheating Eid shoppers by selling substandard dresses at high price in the name of their own or foreign brands. These local brands purchase dresses from different wholesale shops and factories and then display those in tagging their own and imported brands’ logos fixing at a high price, that is, three to four times higher than the purchased cost. Alauddin Super Market at Kaliganj, Jorina Bhaban at Urdu Road and Gawshia Market are three of those markets from where the brand owners purchase the dresses. Hasan-bin-Amir, a salesman of Baby Garden of Jorina Bhaban told The New Nation yesterday that they had all through the Ramzan month sold several thousand dresses to some renowned brands in Bashundhara Shopping Mall, Polwel Market and at other places. “One day I went to collect due money from a shop in Bashundhara Shopping Mall, which is a famous brand, and saw that the price of a baby dress was fixed Tk 800 that was purchased from us in exchange for Tk 180 only,” he said, adding, “The dress was tagged with the brand’s logo”.He also depicted that this year’s much attracted dress ‘Phakhi’ which has been named after a heroine of ‘Bojena Sey Bojena’, an Indian Bangla mega serial, which is being aired on Star Jalsa. The heroine of the drama is found in various colours and patterns of Goll Furok (round dress). Some of the brand owners, collecting its sample from India, gave us before Ramzan to produce the dress similarly. A dress costs between Tk 1,000 and 2,500 for production and we sell each in exchange for Tk 1200 to Tk 3000. But the brand pwners are found to sell those at Tk 2,000 to Tk 5,000 each in name of their own or imported brands. The employees of Apan Collection, Yellow Bird, Marzana Garments, One Man, Dewan Panjabi, Rasel Panjabi, Najir Panjabi, Nahid Panjabi, Kutum Panjabi, Mukut Panjabi and Nir Fashion of Jorina Bhaban echoed the same. They added that the practice had been continuing for the last few years. Some employees of Bangabazaar, Aziz Super Market and Kaliganj Market said that many renowned brands bought dresses from them this year and they found that those were being sold in tagging with the brands’ logos.
