The Eid markets have been witnessing all-time record sales as thousands of people rushing to the shopping centres everywhere in Rangpur division more than a week ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
According to sources in different business bodies at the bigger markets, shopping malls, complexes and makeshifts markets, Eid shopping has reached at the peak now amid tight security measures and peaceful atmosphere.
Talking to BSS traders at different markets in Rangpur city said selling of Eid items has marked an all-time record despite higher price this year following further improvement in the economic condition and increase of incomes of all people.
At this moment of Eid shopping, the markets have worn festive looks with rushing men, women, girls, boys, students, youths and adolescents for buying items of their own choice and their movements have created traffic jams in the city.
Security measures have been tightened and special road traffic systems launched to enable the people marketing without any problem and no untoward incidents have so far been reported from anywhere in the city, police control room sources said.
Adequate number of the members of different law enforcement agencies like police and intelligence personnel are being found patrolling the markets, shopping malls and centres in the divisional city where buyers from all over the division are rushing.
Besides, authorities of the business establishments, business organisations, shopping malls, complexes, markets and centres have also taken their own security measures to ensure peaceful environment for the shoppers.
According to market sources and buyers, price of clothes and other Eid items for males, females, babies and children are higher by 30 to 40 percent than the previous year and the increased costs have almost no impact among the buyers.
In Rangpur city, Eid shoppers have been rushing to the Super Market, Zila Parishad Biponi Bitan, Shah Amanat, City Plaza, Moti Plaza, Maya Exclusive Fashion House, Muktijoddha Market, Rangan, Adi Janata, Jahaz Company Shopping Complex, ‘Karupannya’, Salek Market, Jamal Market, Station Market, Honumantola Market, Adi Janata, Bismillah Garments, Madina Garments and other markets and shopping malls.
Each of the female three pieces is being sold at rates between Taka 800 and 15,000, saree between Taka 600 and 35,000, pant pieces between Taka 600 and 2,500, jeans pants between Taka 1,200 and 3,500, shirt pieces between Taka 600 and 2,000, they said.
The businesspersons expressed satisfaction over sales of the Eid clothes, shoes, cosmetics and other goods so far as the sales have been increased sharply during the last few days till the midnight with nearing of the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
Despite higher price of all Eid items, the markets have been witnessing record business daily this year in over 3,200 shops in different markets, shopping centres, malls and other places in Rangpur city and its adjoining areas.
Rangpur Chamber President Abul Kashem predicted further increase in sales of Eid items in the coming days till the night before Eid-ul-Fitr festivity following huge improvement in economic conditions of the common people in recent times.
Similar reports of record sales in the jam-packed Eid markets are being reported from the markets and shopping places Dinajpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts in the division.
