The government will provide launch service for home-goers of the southern districts during Eid-ul Fitr from June 29.
On the other hand, the private operators will provide special service through 23 launches and six rocket launches from July 1.
Vice President of Launch Owners Association Saidur Rahman Rintu said they have taken adequate measures to ensure safe journey of the passengers.
“The Eid special service will start from Dhaka to southern region through 28 routes on July 1. The launches will start double-trip on July 2. There will be more launches this year to ensure comfortable journey,” he said.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) official Nazrul Islam Misha said, “About 17 launches will be plied through Dhaka-Barisal route. Of them, five launches are of Parabat Company, three from Suravi Co, three from Sundaban, two from Kirtankhola, one each from Kalam Khan, Dipraj, Tipu and Farhan companies.”
Apart from these, two launches of Green Line Water Ways will ply their launches in daytime.
According to BIWTA officials, six ships will join the fleet on June 29 to provide special service to home-goers of southern districts, including Barisal.
Everyday two ships will leave Dhaka on the way to Barisal and Morelganj, they said.
