Syed Shemul Parvez :
City dwellers are leaving the capital city ignoring the lockdown ahead of Eid.
The waves of homebound people were seen at different points of the city since Friday morning.
After only a few days the country is going to observe Eid-ul-Fitr. Since long distance bus services were not seen, homebound people want to share the joy of Eid with their relative’s ones at any cost.
That is why they have started their journeys on foot to reach destinations.
Some have chosen buses, trucks, some private cars, some motorcycles and even van-rickshaws as their means of transportation.
Sources said that many are going to the villages earlier to avoid mount of sufferings. Many passengers complain of harassment and extra fare.
Some passengers said there were no cars on the road. I have to go home so I left on foot. At the same time there are additional costs.
Meanwhile, various transport drivers admitted of taking a little extra fare due to the lockdown.
It is being taken because of harassment. Many times when the traffic police stop us, we have to manage.
The obedience to hygiene was not seen in journey.
Meanwhile, the pressure of thousands of homebound passengers has
increased at Shimulia Ghat in Munshiganj ahead of Eid despite government restrictions to prevent coronavirus infection.
No vehicle could get the ferry from Shimulia in Munshiganj on Friday morning due to excessive pressure from passengers for some time.
According to local and BIWTC sources, the ferry named Enayetpuri left for Banglabazar Ghat with around 1,200 passengers without any vehicle in the morning.
However, last Friday before Eid, the buyers seem to have flocked to the different shopping malls of the capital.
On the other hand, thousands of people are rushing to the shops to do Eid shopping.
In the end, Sources said the increase in sales has brought relief to the sellers even at the end of Ramadan. But, some people are unhappy not maintaining social distance.
Hygiene disappeared under such pressure from the crowd.
Many buyers have expressed concern regarding the increase of corona infection due to the lack of safe social distance.
