Having no political violence, businessmen of Dhaka New Market areas are satisfied over their sale ahead of Eid-ul Fitr this year.
Businessmen of other area in the capital are also happy with their sale though Eid celebration exists about a week.
In this situation the country’s domestic economy is getting a boom with businesses, and market experts are predicting that more than Tk. 90,000 crore will be transacted countrywide on shopping during the Eid.
Meanwhile, overall stable business friendly atmosphere is now prevailing everywhere and traders are happy with their transactions, which will help booming the country’s economy.
S A Kader Kiron, President of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association (BSOA) told The New Nation, “About Tk 60,000 crore will be transacted in readymade garments market in the current year across the country, including Dhaka city, which is 20 per cent more than that of the last year.”
Besides, he added, around Tk 50,000 crore will also be transacted in RMG on the footpath shopping, added.
In addition to garments, about Tk 10,000 crore will be transected in other sectors, though there is no statistics available with the government and non-government institutions about Eid market economy, Kiron said.
Sources said that Bangladeshi expertise have already sent a huge amount of remittance ahead of the Eid.
“There are ten times more transactions during the Eid celebrations compared to normal business. About Tk 5,000 crore to Tk 5,500 crore is transacted in call money market per day in the banks centering the holy Eid-ul-Fitr,”
a senior official of Bangladesh Bank, preferring anonymity, told this correspondent.
“The remittance inflow shows an upward trend as Bangladesh Bank has taken measures to streamline legal channels for encouraging non-resident Bangladeshis to send money to the country,” M Serajul Islam, Chief Spokesperson of the Central Bank said.
According to the Central Bank data, expatriates sent nearly $12 billion remittance in the first nine months of the current fiscal 2018-19, the highest in the last three years.
The expatriates sent 122.83 billion taka ($1434.05 million) during the month of March while 120.93 billion taka ($1458.68 million) during April this fiscal.
During the July-March period, they sent $11.87 billion, 10.30 per cent higher than the amount received in the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal.
“With the gradual improvement of people’s economic conditions, now they celebrate Eid with much pomp and grandeur along with religious rites. So they also spend much more on making the Eid a grand event of the year, Zaid Bakht, Chairman of Agrani Bank told reporters.
Besides, he said, the garment workers will get about Tk 3,000 crore bonus in Eid while the government employees will get more than Tk 900 crore. This amount will be expended in Eid shopping purposes. Beyond this, huge amount of money would also be expended under non-government and private heads.
