EGPP costing Tk 28.83 cr starts in Rangpur on April 26

The 40-day second-phase of special Employment Generation Project for the Poorest (EGPP) at Taka 28.83 crore will begin here from April 26 next to create jobs for the ultra poor people, official sources said.
Under the programme, 36,044 ultra poor of eight upazilas in the district will have job opportunities to earn Taka 200 per day wages each for 40 days during the next two months through conducting infrastructural uplift works five days in a week.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRRO) Abdus Salam today told BSS that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the huge amount of money under the government’s social safety networks for the ultra poor.
Implementation of the programme will begin from April 26 next and each of the card-holder beneficiary including distressed women will work five-day in a week to earn Taka 8,000 as wages each for their 40-day works during the two-month period, he said.
The beneficiaries will conduct development works like cleaning weeds, preparing compost heaps, renovating, repairing and conducting earth-filling works for bridges, culverts, roads, water-bodies, ponds, canals, educational and religious institutions.
The process of beneficiary selection has been completed and each beneficiary will get Taka 875 from their weekly wages of Taka 1,000 for five days on Thursdays leaving Taka 125 as savings in their own bank accounts opened at Taka 10 at local branches.
“We have taken special steps for ensuring complete accountability, transparency and cleanliness in the whole process of proper implementation of the development activities under the programme,” the DRRO said.
