Eggs, chicken dearer, Fire in Kitchen market

The prices of daily commodities have been increased by installments in capital’s kitchen market making unbearable pressure of the fixed and lower income group of people.
The prices of eggs and chicken have gone up a notch this week in the kitchen market.
In addition, the prices of fish and all kind of vegetables have also gone up. As a result the buyers could not get relief or satisfaction in the market.
On Friday, after visiting several kitchen markets around the capital including Hatirpool Kacha Bazar, New Market Kacha Bazar, Lalbagh Kacha Bazar, Karwan Bazar and Mohakhali Kacha Bazar it was perceived that egg and chicken are being sold more than the last week rate. Along with egg and chicken all kind of vegetables are being sold at more than Tk 50.
The retailers said during September and October the supply of vegetables become less than usual time. They blamed the short supply and opining of the hotel restaurant after lifting of the lockdown, while the suppliers held the retailers’ greed responsible for upward trend of price.
The price of broiler chicken has increased by Tk 10-15 per kg in a distance of one week while layer by Tk 30-40 and local Tk 30-40. Per kilo broiler chicken was selling at Tk 160-165, sonali at Tk 300-320, layer at 260-280 and country chicken at Tk 500-520.
On the other hand, per dozen farm eggs was selling at Tk 115-120, whereas one week earlier it was Tk 100-105.
Hasan Muhid, a resident from Lalbagh area went to buy some chickens at New Market Kacha Bazar and became astonished after hearing the rate of the chicken.
He said few days ago which we bought for Tk 250 increased to Tk 300-320. We felt puzzled to buy daily necessaries in the market. Almost all kind of products price have increased.
Nasir Uddin, a retailer of Bhai Bhai Broiler House in Hatirpool Kacha Bazar, said, “The price of all chickens has gone up. On the one hand, the number of chickens coming from the farm is insufficient, comparing with the demand. “
Regarding the reason for the rise in chicken prices, he said the farm owners claimed that the chicken firms have destroyed due to flood and various
restaurants and hotels have been completely reopened due to the lockdown lifting.
He said, “Farmers have reduced production because there was lockdown for long.
“Fowl meat has high demand in the restaurants and hotels. Besides, various social events are also being organized. Due to these reasons, the demand for meat has increased.”
After visiting vegetable market, it was seen that almost all vegetables rate have gone up.
The winter’s vegetable bean was selling Tk 120-140 while tomato at Tk 100-120. Spone gourd was selling at Tk 60-70, Snake gourd at Tk 50-60, Ladies finger at Tk 60-70, Bitter gourd at Tk 60-80, French at Tk 80-90 and Potol at Tk 50-60.
Karwan Bazar vegetable trader Aynal Mia said winter vegetables are not very available at this time. Again the supply of summer vegetables decreases. With this, many farms have been destroyed due to rains and floods. As a result, the supply of vegetables in the market is less. That is why the price is high.
On the other hand, the prices of pulses, oil, sugar and local ginger have also gone up in the market; however, the price of fine rice and imported ginger has come down ‘slightly’, shopkeepers said.
Imported Indian coarse lentils are selling at Tk 90-100 per kg, local at Tk 110-120 and Australian kangaroos at Tk 130-140 per kg. The price of pulses has gone up from Tk 4-10 per kg, traders said.
Open sugar is being sold at Tk 80 per kg and packet at Tk 85 per kg. Local ginger is sold at Tk 120-130 and Chinese at Tk 100 per kg. Palm oil loose is being sold at Tk 122-126 and Super at Tk 125-132 per liter. On the other hand, soybeans are being sold openly at Tk 135. Bottled soybeans are being sold at Tk 150 per liter and five-liter bottled soybeans at Tk 660- 715 depending on the company.
