Md Rayhanul Islam :
There is almost no opportunity to study on fire safety in the universities of Bangladesh, though it should be taught in higher education as an important matter for designing the building of big offices, shopping malls and garments.
After some big fire accidents in the country, people here have become more conscious of it. Therefore, it is now a most considerable case in constructing new buildings.
Now many brilliant students are taking degrees on this subject to become a fire expert. Engineer Mohammad Abdur Rashid Tipu is one of them.
He took graduation on `Mechanical Engineering’ from Islamic University of Technology (IUT).
After graduation, Abdur Rashid completed an online professional development course and took certificate on `Fire Safety’ from College of Engineering Architecture Technology of Oklahoma State University, USA.
At present Abdur Rashid is working a non-government organization named `Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh’. To ensure the fire safety of structures and different matters is the main task of the institution.
Abdur Rashid said, most of the time we ensure the safety of buildings by foreign experts spending a lot of money.
I think, as there is a huge opportunity to work on this field; I decided to study on this subject.
`After completing the course I faced an online exam and got the certificate on fire safety’, he added.
He said, any student of engineering faculties could take part in this online certificate programme. In our country, some non-government organizations allow the training programmes. If the universities in Bangladesh open the subject, then youths will get more opportunity to build up their career on fire safety.
