As many as 153 educational institutions at higher secondary level will face punitive measures for their poor performance in Class XI admission.
According to the Education Ministry’s rule, action will be taken against higher secondary level educational institutions that failed to admit at least 10 students in Class XI. The number of such educational institutions is 153 this year, the ministry sources said.
The ministry will also serve show cause letters on at least 200 more colleges and madrasas as 10 to 20 students have applied to each institution for admission. Usually, the ministry sends show cause letters to the institution whose students’ enrolment goes below 20.
Inter Boards’ College Inspector Dr Ashfaqus Salehin told The New Nation that the ministry closed 200 higher secondary level educational institutions in 2016 because they failed to fulfil the boards’ condition on admission.
“We will take the same action against the unsuccessful institutions this year. But it is impossible to identify the exact number of the colleges before July 1,” the inspector said.
An official of the Education Ministry wishing anonymity told this correspondent that the ministry asked the education boards to make a list of the institutions with poor performance.
“The Education Minister is rigid in this regard. He also rejected all the recommendations of the influential persons for refraining from taking action against the 200 educational institutions last year. He will not tolerate any irregularities this year, too,” he said.
Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, sources said no student applied to 10 educational institutions out of 153. The names of the institutions are Nowabganj
Dakhil Madrasah, Kocaria School and College, Khondoker Abu Sayeed Adarsha Science College, Munshir Taluk Girls Alim Madrasa, Mahmudpur Rasulpur Hamiudia Alim Madrasah and Adiabad Islamia High School and College.
An official of the Dhaka Education Board said some politicians established many educational institutions across the country. In Dhaka the number of such institutions is higher than these in other towns. They forced the students after passing Secondary Certificate Examination to admit at politically influential institutions. But the online admission system hampers their initiative and they are failing to collect students every year.
