Education Ministry will hold human chains in all educational institutions of the country on October 18 protesting the recent spate of violence against women.
The human chains will be held for 15 minutes starting from 11am on the day declaring solidarity with female students and combating violence against them.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the
programme in a press briefing held at the Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh, at Khamar Bari, in the city’s Farmgate area on Saturday.
The press briefing was arranged in view of the recent attack on Khadiza, a 23-year-old daughter of Masuk Miah from Biswanath Upazila in Sylhet district. She was hacked by misguided youth Badrul Alam when she was returning home from college as she spurned his proposal for love.
The Education Minister stressed on social awareness in the society and pressed the need for movement against the criminals.
He also said that the criminals who are committing these activities are enemies of the society. They are beasts in the names of human beings.
Keeping with this initiative, the minister has also called for a meeting with students and elderly people of the locality and imams of mosques of all schools and colleges on October 20.
After the meeting, a committee will be formed which will work for protection of female students, give warning to the misguided males and hand them over to law enforcers in case of need, the minister said.
“Those who are carrying out these indecent activities are enemies of the society, are miscreants and distorted men. They are beasts in the names of human beings,” Nurul Islam Nahid said.
“We demand that these murderers are brought to book and be punished to assure people and to set an example that no one will escape punishment,” he added.
