Staff Reporter :Editors of different national dailies have laid emphasis on initiating talks with opposition to resolve the ongoing political impasse. They expressed this view at a meeting with Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu in his Ministry office on Sunday. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Labour and Employment State Minister Mojibul Haque Chunnu, PM’s Information Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed, among others were present.The editors discussed the present situation triggered by the nationwide indefinite blockade by BNP-led 20-party alliance. The Information Ministry convened the meeting.”We discussed with the Ministers and we agreed for peace. We all are in favour of peace and against any kind of terrorism. We have said in the meeting to reach a solution through discussion,’ said Editors’ Council President and Editor of the Daily Samakal Golam Sarwar.” Golam Sarwar said that the editors proposed the government to resolve the prevailing political crisis through a fruitful dialogue. A country cannot run through such environment. A solution has to be done, he said. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said all they want was normalcy prevails in the country.”A creative discussion was held between the some Ministers and editors. We got valuable thinking and suggestion from the editors. We want peace in the country. We never want disorder,” Tofail said. “We discussed about the environment of dialogue. We discussed about the terrorism and violence. This is our country. We will work together to keep the country peaceful,” the Commerce Minister said. Replying to editors’ proposal for dialogue, the senior minister, however, said it required a congenial atmosphere for initiating such discussion.
