Taxpayers will be encouraged to pay tax if the National Board of Revenue (NBR) ensures all facilities like income tax fair for them at its all offices across the country, said editors and senior journalists.
The NBR must ensure hassle-free services at its all offices so that taxpayers can pay tax without any harassment, said the editors and senior journalists of different print, electronic and online media while speaking at a view-exchange meeting at the city’s Officers’ Club on Thursday.
“NBR’s innovative step-‘income tax fair’-has already become a national festival where taxpayers paid tax standing in queue . . . it is very encouraging and pleasing,” said Prime Minister’s media adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury.
He said taxpayers felt comfort to pay tax and submit returns at the income tax fair because they got all types of services during the fair. If such services are ensured at all tax offices for taxpayers, they will be encouraged to pay tax, he added.
Chowdhury thanked NBR for introducing tax card for taxpayers and said mass media will extend cooperation if steps are taken to ensure all tax payment related services at tax offices.
Editor of the Financial Express Moazzem Hossain said people who invest in savings tools do not submit Tax Identification Number (TIN) though many of them buy savings tools in different names. He suggested the NBR to make submission of TIN mandatory for savings tools buyers, saying that it will help the NBR bring the investors of savings tools under a database.
Hossain said money is being smuggled out of the country under import invoice and suggested the NBR to take more stringent measures to check it.
