Pearson Edexcel, the largest Awarding body in the UK and a part of Pearson, in collaboration with the British Council, conducted its forth Academic Award Ceremony for the students who achieved outstanding results in their International-GCSE and A Level examinations in 2015. The Award Ceremony was held in the Hall of Fame, Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city and more than 1500 attendees which include students, teachers, parents and distinguished guests attended the event.
State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak, MP was the chief guest at the function and handed over the certificates to the awardees. Allison Blake, the British High Commissioner, Barbara Wickham, Director British Council and David Crowther, Director International Products and Global Partnerships, Pearson Qualifications was also present in the occasion as special guests.
State Minister in his speech, thanked both, Pearson Edexcel and British Council authorities for organizing this grand event. He said, recognizing the outstanding achievement of these brilliant students will work as a great encouragement for their future study and career through which, our country can be benefitted.
He also said that our country needs more scientists, doctors and more researchers who can help develop the economy of Bangladesh and change the quality of lives. He also added that the improvement in the education sector is high on Govt’s agenda and we all need to come forward and think how we can improve the quality of education in the country.
Allison Blake congratulated all the Awardees and assured that UK Government is always trying to maintain the highest quality of UK qualifications, so that anyone doing a UK qualification can build their career and contribute the best to their country and society.
David Crowther congratulated all the awardees and also thanked the parents, teachers and Principals for their invaluable contribution for these students to achieve outstanding results. These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the encouragement and support from their schoolteachers and parents. Crowther also added that, Pearson Edexcel has been offering its International GCSE and A Level qualifications in Bangladesh for last 44 years with the support of British Council Bangladesh. More than 16000 students currently sit these examinations in Bangladesh twice a year.
Barbara Wickham highlighted that Pearson Edexcel is one of the largest awarding bodies in the UK and British Council have been conducting its examinations in Bangladesh for last 44 years successfully.
She also assured that they would continue to create opportunities for Bangladeshi students to get the best qualifications, so that they can create their better future.
Bangladesh is one of the key countries where large number of students sits Edexcel qualifications and every year and many of them go for higher studies in world’s most prestigious Universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, MIT, LSE etc. A large number of these students are also studying in both public and private universities in Bangladesh.
Among others Deep Adhikary, Country Examinations Manager, British Council, Saidur Rahman, Country Manager, Edexcel Bangladesh and Abdullah Liton, Regional Development Manager of Edexcel were present on the occasion.
