A group of unidentified assailants hacked to death former Vice Principal of Eden College at a room of an under-construction building in city’s Banani Old DOHS area on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Professor Ali Hossain Malik, (70). He retired from the Eden College as a Vice-Principal around eight years ago and worked as General Manager of House-Building Company Limited.
Police recovered the body of Malik from the third floor of the building at House 53/A, Road 2 in Bhasantek. His hands and legs were found tied with rope.
Police also picked up five persons, including caretaker Selim Mia, for interrogation in this connection, police said.
Quoting the victim’s relatives, Bhasantek Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam, said “Malik did not return to their rented house in Mirpur on Sunday night. One of the employees found his body at the office room of the building and informed the family members. We recovered the body from the office room following information.”
“Malik was staying alone at a flat of the under-construction building of one of his friends to look after the construction works as his friend lives abroad. A caretaker, driver and some employees were also staying in the building,” the police official said.
Police initially suspect that two employees of the building might have been involved in the killing as they were found absconding since Tuesday morning, the OC said.
“We are interrogating five persons in this connection,” the OC said.
The body was kept at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy, said Bachchu Mia, Sub-Inspector of DMCH Police Outpost.
The body found bore four marks of stab injuries, the police official said.
