DCC polls: EC’s role not satisfactory, alleges Tabith

Awami League (AL) leader and MP Sadek Khan was spotted at an election campaigning stage for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor candidate Atiqul Islam.
The BNP mayor candidate Tabith Awal has accused the ruling party men of violating electoral code of conduct, but the role of Election Commissioner was not satisfactory. EC did not take any steps in this regard yet.
Breaching electoral code of conduct, ruling Awami league (AL) lawmaker Sadek Khan participated in the Dhaka city polls campaign for party nominated Mayor candidate Md Atiqul Islam at Shatadal Complex ground in the capital’s Agargaon area on Tuesday around 11:00 am.
However, he left the spot after reporters drew his attention to the violation of electoral code of conduct, imposed by the Election Commission (EC).
Earlier on Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda warned that Members of Parliament (MPs) can neither can take part in electioneering nor can act as election coordinators in the upcoming city polls.
According to the City Corporation (Election Code of Conduct) Rules 2016, the very important persons enjoying the government privileges are not allowed to take part in city election
Meanwhile, the BNP’s mayor candidate for DNCC Tabith Awal has alleged that the role of Election Commissioner was not satisfactory.
“AL lawmakers are violating electoral code of conduct. The election offices of the councillors have been vandalised by the rivals. They have also been obstructing us. But the EC did not take any steps in this regard yet,” he said.
Tabith charged it while talking to journalists before the beginning of the day’s election campaign with his party men at Uttar Badda on Tuesday.
He said, “There is no level-playing field as yet. The BNP men remained quiet despite facing many obstacles. We are in the field and to remain stay.”
On January 12, Tabith Awal accused the ‘ruling party’ activists of attacking his campaign near Shah Ali Mazar at Uttar Bishil of Mirur-1.
On the other hand, BNP Mayor candidate for the DSCC Ishraque Hossain led campaigns at Khilgonj and Trimony on Tuesday. Awami League mayor candidate for the DSCC Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh guided campaigns in Azimpur and Lalbag area yesterday.
