The BNP on Wednesday accused the Election Commission of making polls preparation questionable, as it is yet to appoint election officials in 85 upazilas.
“The EC’s overall preparation for the ensuing polls is questionable. The people of the country are observing with anxiety that everything is being done to hold a one-sided polls. They are showing their loyalty to the ruling Awami League every day. The EC did not yet appoint election officials in 85 upazilas making people worried,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office.
People’s anxiety over holding of inclusive general polls is gradually deepening due to the controversial activities of the EC and the ruling party, said Rizvi.
The BNP leader said, the EC’s move to appoint pro-government officials from different ministries in the upazilas to conduct the election is part of a government plot.
Rizvi said, the ruling party leaders are regularly holding meetings with government officials to manupulate the election results in their favour.
Rizvi also criticised Attorney General Mahbubey Alam’s remark about Begum Khaleda Zia’s legality to take part in polls.
“The people are astonished as to how does the highest judicial official can comment on Khaleda Zia’s polls status?”

“We want to ask the attorney general how did the ruling party’s Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad contest in polls when they were tried in the judicial court?”
He told the attorney general, “You have collected the boat symbol’s nomination for the upcoming parliamentary elections. You are a Awami League leader. So how do you remain as the chief judicial officer of the state?”
