State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Naryan Chandra Chanda here Saturday said economy of South-Western(S-W) region will be stronger after completion of dredging of Mongla-Ghasiakhali channel.
He was speaking with the journalists while visiting the dredging work.
The Minister said 72 percent dredging of the channel has been completed and the rest work will be completed very soon.
The dredging work has been given highest importance at the directive of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said adding that the channel will be a part of an international river route.
He said, Mongla Port now turned profitable due to various steps taken by the government.
A total of 82 canals of Mongla and Rampal will be dredged, he said.
He also asked the officials to recover the grabbed canals and ordered them to take legal action against the grabbers.
Lawmaker of Bagerhat-2 constituency advocate Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdus Samad and Bagerhat deputy commissioner Md. Zahangir Alam were present.
