Economist Quamrul Islam dies

Eminent economist, advocate and columnist Muhammad Quamrul Islam died at cardic arrest at Uttara Adhunik Medical College around 9.55am on May 4. He was 79.
He left behind his wife, two daughters, one son and many well-wishers to mourn his death. He was buried at Uttara Graveyard of Sector No. 12 Late Muhammad Quamrul Islam was born in a respectable family at Cumilla City on July 3, 1941. His father late Advocate Muezzul Islam B.L. and his mother late Ayesha Khatoon. He did his Honors and Masters in Economics in 1960-1961 from University of Dhaka. He acted as a Finance Director in WAPDA, Bangladesh Red Cross Society, Bakhrabad Gas Field Ltd in Cumilla. He was also Finance Manager in Chalna Port and Bangladesh Handloom Board.
He was an active political member of NAP (Bhasani). He was also a Lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court. He was a renowned columnist in the prominent newspapers, including The New Nation.
