Ecnec okays Tk 853.68cr fresh project to supply power to capital

A total of 7 projects gets go-ahead signal

UNB, Dhaka : The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday approved a Tk 853.68 crore fresh project to ensure adequate power supply to the capital through Rampura 230/132 KV power substation. The project, titled ‘Ashuganj-Bhulta 400KV Transmission Line Project’, was approved at an Ecnec meeting held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area with Ecnec Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said a total of seven development projects involving Tk 1353.46 crore were approved today. “Of the total project cost, Tk 1102.64 crore will come from the national exchequer while Tk 250.82 crore from the organisation’s own fund,” he said. State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, Planning Division Secretary and Planning Commission members were present. Of the seven approved projects, three are new while four are revised ones. Besides, the Ecnec meeting approved the change of a title of a project styled ‘Coastal Towns Environmental Infrastructure Project (CTEIP)’ previously known as ‘Coastal Towns Infrastructure Improvement Project (CTIIP)’. Of the total project cost for ‘Ashuganj-Bhulta 400 KV Transmission Line Project’, Tk 637.85 crore will come from the national coffer while Tk 215.82 crore from the own fund of the implementing organisation, the Planning Minister said. Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) will implement the project by June 2017. Under the project, Mustafa Kamal said there will be a 70-km Ashuganj-Bhulta 400 KV dual circuit transmission line, Bhulta Haripur-Rampura 230 KV dual circuit line-in and line-out of 3 kilometer, Bhulta Ghorashal-Rampura 230 KV dual circuit line-in and line-out of 1 kilometer and construction of a Bhulta (Narayanganj) 400/230 KV, 2×250 MVA AIS substation construction. He said the government has a plan to set up 800 KV transmission line there in the future. The Ecnec meeting gave nod to another project titled ‘construction of Madan-Khaliazuri Submergible Road and PC Girder Bridge on River Balai on the 37th kilometer on Netrokona-Madan-Khaliazuri road with Tk 104.01 to be provided by the government.
