ECNEC okays land acquisition for 300-400 MW power plant in Munshiganj

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved five development projects including land acquisition, rehabilitation and environmental impact measurement project for establishing 300-400 MW Supercritical Coal Based Power Plant in Gazaria and Sadar upazila of Munshiganj, with an outlay of Taka 987.80 crore.
The approval came at the meeting of the ECNEC held in the NEC conference room in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
“Land acquisition, rehabilitation and environmental impact measurement project for establishing 300-400 MW Supercritical Coal Based Power Plant in Munshiganj has been approved with emphasis on diversification of using power under power system master plan for power sector development,” Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal told newsmen after the meeting.
He said Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB) will implement the project at a cost of Taka 283.29 crore by June 2018.
Mustafa Kamal said “The government will provide Taka 974.31 crore from the national exchequer for the five development projects while the remaining Taka 13.49 crore will come from the organizations’ own fund.”
The minister also said ECNEC also okayed renovation or re-excavation project of ponds or dighis of district councils for preservation of water and supply of safe water with an estimated cost of Taka 374.51 crore.
Under the project, a total of 809 ponds will be renovated or re-excavated across the country, he added.
The other approved projects are construction of divisional headquarter in Rangpur (Tk 76.63 crore), connecting road development project for Rupganj and Jolshiri housing (Tk 102.66 crore) and officer’s mess complex and residence construction project for Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) at Dhaka Cantonment (Tk 150 crore).
Ministers and state ministers attended the meeting. Planning Commission members and concerned secretaries were present.
