Ecnec approves project to set up Air Force training institute

The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec)on Sundayapproved a project for establishing an Air Force training institute at BAF Base Zahuru Haque in Chittagong by June 2021.
The project titled ‘BAF Base Zahurul Haque, Chittagong Air Force Training Institute Establishment’ was taken for creating competent manpower by providing the members of the Air Force with modern training on their respective trades.
The approval came from the regular Ecnec meeting, held at the NEC conference room, with Ecnec Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the project is involving Tk 219.29 crore and the whole fund will come from the national exchequer.
Construction of different offices, including commandant office, academic bhaban, three dormitory bhabans, library, cafeteria, utility bhaban, common bhaban, parade ground, road and empty pool, procurement of machinery, office equipment and furniture are among the main works under the project, according to the factsheet provided at the briefing.
Mustafa Kamal said, “Eleven projects were approved at the meeting today involving an overall estimated cost of Tk 7,423.72 crore and the entire cost will come from the GoB fund.”
Of the 11 projects, three are new ones while eight projects are revised ones.
The Ecnec also approved a project titled ‘Construction of Rab Forces Headquarters’ to set up a permanent headquarters for the Rab force in the Capital with Tk 495.10 crore.
The project will be implemented by June 2021 in Dhaka North City Corporation areas, according to the factsheet.
Currently, there is no permanent infrastructure for the Rab Forces Headquarters while the rented temporary offices are not adequate to accommodate Rab officials and employees, keeping the vehicles for transporting equipments, arms and ammunition, dog squads and other necessary equipment.
The main project works include construction of a 13-storey office building having a foundation of 14-storey one, construction of a 12-storey bachelor officers’ quarter, construction of a 10-storey force barrack, construction of en 8-storey MT shed-cum-Deputy Directors’ mess, two 10-storey residential quarters, and a 10-storey mess house.
The nine other projects approved in the meeting include construction of long bridges on upazila and union roads (3rd revised), with an estimated cost of Tk 2,287.65 crore, Greater Faridpur rural infrastructure development (2nd phase) (3rd revised) with Tk 1,489.55 crore, Greater Faridpur rural infrastructure development (3rd revised) with Tk 1,709.53 crore, ensuring nutrition and food security (1st revised) through integrated agricultural development with Tk 107 crore, curve straitening from Indrapool to Chakrashala on Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway (1st revised) with Tk 103.58 crore.
The remaining approved projects are: Construction of 288 residential flats for government officials atMirpur-6in Dhaka with Tk 290.50 crore, upgrading Barisal Textile Institute to Shaheed Abdur Rob Serniabad Textile Engineering College (3rd revised) with Tk 125.18 crore, Establishment of Sheikh Russell Textile Institute, Madarganj, Jamalpur (1st revised) with Tk 101.16 crore and construction of national revenue building (1st revised) with Tk 495.18 crore.
