ECNEC approves 12 projects involving Tk 10, 147.57cr

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved 12 projects, including one for urban governance and infrastructure development, involving a total of Tk 10, 147.57 crore.
The approval was given in the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Of the total project cost, Tk 6,280.64 crore will come from the National exchequer, Tk 235.59 crore from the funds of the implementing agencies and the remaining Tk 3,631.34 crore will come as project assistance, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told journalists at a post-meeting briefing.
He said urban governance and infrastructure development project (III) is a revised one and it will be implemented at a cost of Tk 4,046.17 crore. Implementation of this project, communication, water supply, sewerage and sanitation systems in 36 pourashavas will be developed which would help bring change in the socioeconomic condition of the poor people, he said.
Kamal said the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to set up incinerators in abandoned land outside the urban area. About the landfill project in Matuail, the Prime Minister ordered to keep canals and water reservoirs near the landfill, he added.
Other approved projects are Matuail sanitary landfill expansion and land development project (Tk 724.49 crore), construction of residential building for cleaners of Dhaka North City Corporation in Gabtoli City Pally (Tk177.73 crore), expansion and improvement of important regional highways (Tk 591.75 crore), construction of Kalia bridge on the river Nabaganga on Narail-Kalia district highway (Tk 75 crore), expansion of Hemayetpur-Singair-Manikganj highway (Tk 255.30 crore), cyber threat detection and response project (Tk 149.52 crore), sustainable water resource development (Tk 898.91 crore), increasing the research and ability of the Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries of Chittagong University (Tk 72.10 crore), clean air and sustainable environment project (Tk 802.52 crore), construction of 13 buffer godowns in different districts for preservation and distribution of fertilizers (Tk482.04 crore) and mosque based child and mass education programme (Tk 2,272.04 crore).
The Planning Minister said ECNEC held a total of 21 meetings in the current fiscal year where a total of 174 projects involving Tk 4,12,149 crore were approved.
