BSS, Dhaka :
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Sunday approved 11 development projects involving Taka 7,423.72 crore including one to set up RAB headquarters in the capital with Taka 495.10 crore.
The approval came from the 17th ECNEC meeting of the current fiscal year held at the NEC Conference Room in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said a total of 11 projects were approved today involving Taka 7,423.72 crore.
“The entire cost of the 11 projects will come from the state exchequer,” added the Minister.
Of the projects, three are afresh while the rest projects are revised.
The Planning Minister said Bangladesh Police (RAB Forces) and the Public Works Department would jointly implement the construction of RAB headquarters project by June 2021 in a bid to ensure basic infrastructural facilities for the elite force members. According to the Planning Commission, currently there is no permanent infrastructure for the RAB forces headquarter while the rented temporary offices are not adequate for housing the RAB officials and employees with vehicles for transporting equipment, arms and ammunition, dog squads and other necessary equipment.
Launched in 2003 as an elite and striking force, the operations of RAB has expanded over the years as currently some 1,486 officials and employees of RAB in different tiers are working at the temporary RAB headquarters in the capital’s Uttara area.
