ECB tweaks growth, inflation forecasts as trade wars persist

AFP, Vilnius :
The European Central Bank on Thursday slightly upgraded its growth and inflation outlook for 2019, but reduced its forecast for the following years as global headwinds threaten the bloc.
Economists at the Frankfurt-based institution said economic growth would hit 1.2 percent this year, rather than the 1.1 percent outlook they offered in March.
But the 2020 forecast was downgraded by 0.2 points, to 1.4 percent, the same as 2021 – also slightly reduced.
Looking to inflation, prices are expected to add 1.3 percent in 2019 rather than the 1.2 percent predicted last quarter – still far from the ECB target of just below 2.0 percent.
