bdnews24.com :The Election Commission has warned the BNP and other parties outside Parliament against any breach of the municipal polls code of conduct in campaigning by their chiefs.Election Commissioner Md Shah Nawaz said on Sunday action against such violations will not be ‘a matter of pleasure’.”Please don’t break laws. No matter who he or she is, we will take steps if rules are violated and that will not be pleasant,” Nawaz said.He asked those enjoying benefits from the government not to campaign in the polls. He also asked others to follow the rules.The prime minister, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, ministers, MPs and city corporation mayors cannot take part in the campaign for the municipal polls.There is no such bar for the chiefs of political parties.Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will not be able to campaign for the candidates her party has nominated as she holds the office of prime minister.Her Special Envoy Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad faces a similar bar.BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is not affected by such restrictions as she does not enjoy any facilities from the government or protocol in the light of her party’s boycott of the last general election.Nawaz said Khaleda would be able to take part in street rallies.”But a street rally cannot turn into a procession or mass rally,” he warned.
