The Election Commission has decided to file a case against JKG Health Care chairperson Sabrina Arif Chowdhury for obtaining two National Identity cards.
Confirming the matter, EC secretary M Alamgir told reporters that the commission instructed the NID Wing to prosecute Sabrina while her NID had already been blocked.
NID Wing director general M Saidul Islam said that they already asked its Mohammadpur thana election officer to prosecute Sabrina as she collected the second NID from the area.
Earlier on Wednesday, the EC decided to take legal action against the people involved in issuing a second national identity card for Sabrian after an Anti-Corruption Commission inquiry had found that the doctor has two active NID cards with different information. Sabrina now faces trial in a case for COVID-19 test forgery.
An ACC inquiry found that the suspended Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases cardiac surgeon had two NIDs. On August 20, a Dhaka court framed charges against eight people, including Sabrina, in a fraud case filed over issuing fake COVID-19 test reports.
JKG Healthcare issued reports to 27,000 people in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, without collecting samples for COVID-19 tests.
On June 23, the company was raided and sealed off as most of the reports provided by JKG found fake.
