UNB, Dhaka :
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the next general election will be held under the Election Commission’s (EC’s) supervision as per the Constitution.
“The government will only perform its routine works and not to make any policymaking decisions during the polls. It’ll also facilitate the EC to
hold a credible election,” he said referring to BNP’s demand for a supportive election-time government.
Referring to BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s threat of a waging movement after Eid, he said, “In previous eight years, BNP couldn’t appear on the street with a movement for even eight days. In the name of protest, they had only torched public assets and hurled petrol bombs.”
Talking to reporters at the secretariat on the first working day after Eid vacation, the minister claimed that this year’s Eid journeys of the holidaymakers were more comfortable than previous years as no major road crashes occurred except Rangpur. The Chittagong- Rangamati route that was damaged during the recent landslides will be opened to traffic very soon, he added.
