BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday asked the Election Commissioners to step down if they were unable to perform their duties properly.
“The EC should step down if they failed to perform their duties properly. They should make it clear to the country men that they are not able to perform their duties freely,” Mirza Fakhrul told the journalists in the party Chairperson’s Gulshan office.
He said, the countrymen want a free and fair election. But the government wants to come to power again by holding a one-sided election using the EC which is liable to create a level playing field for all parties, but they are making more obstacles. The EC is trying to make the polls worst.
The EC issued circulars which is not helpful for holding fair polls.
The ruling party are holding meeting everyday violating the code, but the EC doing nothing.
The BNP leader said, massive arrest continues every day against the BNP men across the country.
He said, a total of 1,972 opposition activists were arrested since submitting nomination papers.
“We learned that a meeting was held in Law Ministry with the district judges. The district judges were also directed not to grant bail to the opposition activists,” he said.
He further said there is no level-playing field for all political parties before the election.
“We reiterate that we have joined the polls as a part of our movement. We also want release of Khaleda Zia,” he said.
