The Election Commission (EC) is taking preparations to hold elections to 256 municipalities across the country by mid-December.
EC secretary Md Alamgir said: “Our plan is to hold elections to the vacant posts in municipalities at a time in the last week of November or first of the December.”
“The last municipal election was held at a time in December 2015. EC will have to announce the schedule 40 to 45 days prior to the election day,” he said.

held in several phases in 2015 under the commission headed by Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad.
There are 328 municipalities in the country, of which 256 are ready for election. However, the number of municipalities may vary depending on some legal issues, said EC officials.
