The Election Commission (EC) has sought tv footage which were aired on different channels over the irregularities and clashes.
EC sent letters to 21 TV channels’ chief news editors seeking the footages. However, several EC officials expressed their misgivings whether any action would be taken after scrutinizing the footages.
An EC official seeking anonymity said EC could not take any action against the people who violate rules during City Corporation, Upazila and National
elections after scrutinizing the video footages of some TV Channels, rather than EC termed the footages as exaggerated.
The TV Channels which were asked to provide video footages are ATN Bangla, Channel I, NTV, Bangla Vision, ETV, Channel 24, Jamuna Television, Somoy TV, Boshakhi TV, ATN News, RTV, Desh TV, Masranga Television, Independent Television, Gazi Television, SA TV, Channel 9, Deepto Television, Asian TV, Mohona TV and My TV. The country’s maiden local body Polls were held in 234 municipalities on December 30. Twenty political parties including country’s two largest parties Awami League and BNP participated the election.
