Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has asked the Election Commission officials to serve the people, not political parties nor the politicians.
CEC said, the EC has to work for a peaceful and comfortable environment so that the voters can vote without any hassle.
KM Nurul Huda was addressing the inaugural session of a training programme titled “training for trainers” in the Election Commission Institute on the Election Commission (EC) building at Agargaon in Dhaka on Sunday.
The programme includes imparting the training on the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
The CEC further said, “The days of guarding the ballot paper against misuse has gone. The commission rather has to move towards the use of EVM gradually.”
Despite the reservations of many political parties, including the BNP, the EC decided to amend the Representation of the People Order (RPO) 1972 in order to use EVM in the upcoming national election in December.
“For the first time this year, the commission is considering to train polling agents,” the CEC said.
Meanwhile, the gap between the Election Commission and the political parties should be reduced for holding a free and fair election.
