Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Thursday said that Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar should resign from the Election Commission before delivering unwanted speech very recently.
“I think that EC Mahbub’s statement is a recognition of his failure. It is but self-deception. He should have resigned from the EC before making undesired comment,” said the Minister while addressing a media briefing at his Secretariat office in the capital.
EC Mahbub on Wednesday said, he does not want to see the repetition of Khulna, Barishal and Gazipur city polls in the Dhaka two city corporations election. The Election Commission is literally independent, but in reality that independence is under the control of electoral process. That is why reforming the electoral process is essential.
Mahbub said also that public representatives who are elected illegally have no commitment to people’s interest or democracy.
The Minister, however, said that Commissioner Mahbub’s remarks won’t destroy the normal environment in the Election Commission.
