Election Commission has issued show cause notices against mayor candidates nominated by Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Awami League (AL).
Helaluddin, Assistant Returning Officer, said show cause letter was sent to IAB nominated mayor candidate Obayedur Rahman Mahbub for using religious sentiment in election propagation. He said seeking vote using religion is violation of election code of conduct, so we issued showed case to them.
IAB candidates propagating that casting vote in favour of their hand-fan symbol will mean casting vote in favour of holy prophet(SM).
Mawlana Hedayetullah Azadi, City Organizing Secretary of IAB, acknowledging the fact of receiving show cause letter, said they are Islamic ideology based organization and followers of Prophet (SM). Our ideology was preached by Nabiji (SM), so we are seeking vote for spreading his ideology. It was like AL asking vote in favour of Sk. Hasina and BNP for Khaleda Zia, then why asking vote in the name of holy Prophet (SM) and his ideology would be cognizable offence!
On other hand Dr. Bhaskar Saha, principal Sher E Bangla Medical College, Dr. Baqir Hossain, director, Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and AL nominated candidate Serniabad Sadik Abdullah also given show cause notice for using Government SBMC auditorium as election propagation venue.
Dr. Bhaskar Saha, principal SBMC, acknowledging the fact of receiving show cause letter, said they will reply that through their lawyer.
We have not any knowledge about election conduct rule and prohibition against using government places and I will seek apology for that to EC. Propagation
Besides, election propagation of the candidates going on in full swing Barishal city. BNP-led 20 party alliances nominated mayor candidate Mojibor Rahman Sarwar was engaged in propagation campaign at Forester Bari, Nabagram, C and B, Alekanda Road areas of the city on Sunday.
At that time he told the journalists that if any one tries to change of election result, then they will start strong movement from Barishal against the government to fall down.

Bangladesh Awami League nominated mayor candidate Badaruddin Ahmed Kamran said people will give befitting reply through ballots in the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) polls.
He was addressing various spontaneous gatherings and way side meetings on Saturday .
He said, ‘Sylhet is a place of peace and people here are peace -loving too. The city now wears a festive look. No incident has taken place so far. Some people have been trying to create anarchy and instability by propaganda, particularly a mayor candidate and his followers who take the path of spreading falsehood. But people never believe them. They will give their verdict in favour of ‘Boat’ on 30th July next’. He alleged these today while undergoing mass contact programme at Korer Para and Pathantula areas in Sylhet city.
Mr. Kamran said, ‘Awami League believes in peace, progress and development. He said, ‘Victory of AL means the victory of development. So he called upon all to vote for ‘Boat’ and become the partner of present development programmes taken up and materialized by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who has been trying to build a modern and developed country. Mr. Kamran added that she has given in special emphasis on the development of Sylhet -the holy memorial City of Hazrat Shahjalalal (R )
In the mass contact campaign Sylhet City Jubo League Leader Shahriar Kabir Shelim , Mokbul Hussain Khan and others were present . Later Mr. Kamran visited Pathan Para and Londoni Road where he met locals and sought vote for ‘Boat’.
