The BNP on Wednesday said, the Election Commission favours the ruling Awami League by ignoring BNP’s repeated calls for Army deployment in city corporation polls.
“The EC is legitimising election terrorism and irregularities one after another,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s central office.
“In such circumstances, the free, fair and neutral election is almost absurd. The subservient EC is the mastermind of present
‘election-gate scandal’. They should be ashamed of it.”
The BNP leader said that some day or the other the commission would have to pay heavy price for holding a election of their model.
Rizvi accused the ruling party’s MP and leaders and others of occupying roads and highways violating election code of conduct.
He said, the Election Commission is yet to take any action even after complaints were lodged.
He said public prosecutors, additional public prosecutors, special public prosecutors and other government officials are taking part in election processions in favour of the ruling party mayor candidate in Barishal city, which is gross violation of election code of conduct.
Rizvi said that widespread irregularities and violation of election code were sweeping Sylhet and Rajshahi city polls.
He also termed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent statement about Khaleda Zia’s illnesses in jail as regrettable and unwanted.
