Staff Reporter :
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Zainul Abedin on Monday said, “Law enforcing agencies should have been placed under the command of the Election Commission (EC) after declaration of the election schedule. But unfortunately EC blatantly failed to establish their authority in controlling the law enforcers.”
He also said, “The Election Commissioners should quit the office without any delay if they fail to establish their authority in controlling the law enforcers. And they (Election Commissioners) should openly say that they could not control the law enforcers.”
He was speaking in a press briefing held on the Supreme Court premises organized by the SCBA in
protesting the brutal shootings that injured SCBA Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan. Other leaders of the SCBA and lawyers were present in the occasion.
Advocate Zainul said, “SCBA Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan is now hospitalized after being shot by the law enforcers. As per media report, he was shot by an OC of Police. I want to know on behalf of the Supreme Court Bar that how could a OC can hold his post even after injuring an innocent candidate. Is EC performing its duty? In this situation, we cannot hope a level-playing field or neutrality from this kind of EC.”
