A total of 30 eminent citizens called upon the Election Commission (EC) to be transparent, accountable and unbiased in order to make the upcoming 11th National Election credible.
It is the demand of time to hold a free, fair and inclusive election scheduled to be held on December 30, and it is the EC that can translate the demand into action.
They said this at a press conference under the banner of “Nagoriker Pokkhe Amra” held in the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Saturday.
Dhaka University Professor Geeti Ara Nasrin, Barrister Sara Hossain, photographer Shahidul Alam,
Professor Anu Mohammad, Ahmed Kamal, Lawyer Shahdin Malik and Shirin Huq were present there, among others, on the occasion.
Geeti Ara Nasrin read out a joint statement asking the EC to make sure that the administration discharges their duties honestly.
The written statement was signed by writers, researchers, professors and photographers and others.
The prime recommendations are that the journalists should be allowed to discharge their duties without fear, all routes of communication should be made free and accessible, arrests, attacks and all sorts of violence should be stopped, persons linked to violence must be brought to justice and those arrested in false cases should be immediately released.
