The Election Commission on Thursday allotted poll symbols to the candidates for the Tangail-4 by-election.
Returning Officer of Tangail Alim Uz Zaman allotted the symbols to Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) Chief Kader Siddique, Awami League candidate Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hajari, Bangladesh Nationalist Front’s Ataur Rahman Khan and National Peoples’ Party’s Imrul Qayes at his office on Thursday.
Kader Siddique, who is back in the race following a
High Court order, will be contesting the election with the symbol of ‘Gamchha’ (local variant of towel) while the Awami League candidate Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hajari has got ‘boat’ as his poll symbol.
Bangladesh Nationalist Front’s Ataur Rahman Khan has been allotted ‘television’ and National Peoples’ Party’s Imrul Qayes ‘mango’.
The by-polls are scheduled for Nov 10.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant after Siddique’s elder brother and former Awami League minister Abdul Latif Siddique resigned from Parliament last month.
Altogether 10 aspirants filed nominations for the by-polls. But returning officers rejected the nominations of four candidates, including that of Kader Siddique’s.
The KSJL chief then appealed against the decision with the Election Commission which was turned down.
He then moved the High Court and on Wednesday the court ordered the commission to accept his nomination.
