UNB, Dhaka :
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday night warned that if the search committee and the Election Commission (EC) are formed according to the desire of the Awami League, it will not be acceptable to the people either at home or abroad.
She issued the warning while exchanging views with the leaders of Zia Parishad, a pro-BNP platform, at her Gulshan office. The president doesn’t belong to any party. He is the president of the country. What the country’s people and we expect is that the president will
form a search committee and an election commission with truly neutral persons. But if he forms the EC to fulfill the desire of the ruling party, it will not be acceptable to the country’s people, she said. President Abdul Hamid has already talked with 31 political parties for the formation of the new EC as the current commission’s tenure will expire in February.
Khaleda said, the president should now constitute the EC with neutral persons examining the opinion of the political parties placed to him during their talks. If the commission is formed with spineless and partisan persons like Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, it will not be acceptable to people anywhere, she added.
