Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited posted an easy six-wicket victory over title aspirants Dhaka Abahani Limited in their Super League match of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Thursday.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited gained 19 points from 15 matches, while Dhaka Abahani Limited earned 22 points from as many matches.
Electing to bat first, Dhaka Abahani Limited scored 173 for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited coasted home making 175 for the loss of four wickets when they had nine balls to spare.
Mohammad Ashraful of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited remained unbeaten with 72. His 48-ball innings was studded with eight fours and two sixes. Ashraful was adjudged the Man of the Match. Nurul Hasan played a captain’s knock of 36. His 22-ball knock was belted with three sixes and a four.
Nasir Hossain hit a polished 36. His 22-ball innings saw four fours and two sixes.
Ziaur Rahman remained unbeaten with 22. His nine-ball knock had two fours and two sixes.
Aminul Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Saifuddin and Arafat Sunny of Dhaka Abahani Limited took one wicket each.
Earlier, Liton Das of Dhaka Abahani Limited hit a sparkle 70. His 51-ball innings was laced with eight fours and a sixer. Opener Mohammad Naim made 42 from 28 balls featuring six fours.
Minhajul Abedin Afridi, Ziaur Rahman bagged two wickets each instead of 25 and 42 runs respectively. Mohammad Enamul took one wicket for 30 runs.
Meanwhile, Gazi Group Cricketers recorded a thrilling three-wicket win over Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in their Super League match of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket at the same venue on the same day. Gazi Group Cricketers collected 17 points from 15 matches, while Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club remained with 13 points from as many matches.
Chasing Dhaka Mohammedan’s 165 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, Gazi Group Cricketers reached the winning target making 166 for the loss of seven wickets when they had just three balls to spare.
Opener Mahedi Hasan of Gazi Group Cricketers hammered a hurricane 92. His 58-ball innings was belted with 11 fours and three sixes. Hasan was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Asif Hasan of Dhaka Mohammedan grabbed three wickets in the space of 22 runs, while Yeasin Arafat and Shuvagata Hom bagged two wickets each for 23 and 29 runs respectively.
Earlier, Shuvagata Hom remained unbeaten with 59. His 31-ball knock was decorated with three sixes and four fours.
Opener Parvez Hossain Emon hit a fine 41. His 32-ball knock was laced with four sixes and two fours.
Mahedi Hasan, Mohiuddin Tareq and Rakibul Atik bagged two wickets each.
