Bangabandhu T20 Cup: Easy win for Gazi Group Chattogram

Gazi Group Chattogram posted an easy win by seven wickets over Fortune Barishal in their seventh match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Thursday. Chattogram have already confirmed their play-off berth.
Chattogram confirmed their top spot in the Round Robin League collecting 12 points from seven matches, while Barishal are struggling for a berth in last four with four points from as many matches.
Chasing Barishal’s total of 149 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Chattogram reached the
winning target in 18.4 overs making 153 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Chattogram had a solid start as openers Soumya Sarkar and Shykat Ali added together 79 runs in the opening stand before Shykat Ali was caught by Salauddin Sakil off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when Chattogram’s total was 79.
After Shykat Ali’s departure, Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudul Hasan Joy contributed together 40 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya Sarkar was caught by Tamim Iqbal off Sumon Khan when Barishal’s score was 119 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Mahmudul Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain guided their team to enter the victory target adding together 30 runs for the unbroken four-wicket stand.
Soumya Sarkar notched up his team’s highest 62 runs. His 37-ball innings was decorated with three sixes and seven fours.
Shykat Ali made 39 from 33 balls featuring six fours and a sixer. Mahmudul Hasan remained unbeaten with 31. He hit three fours in his 27-ball knock. Sumon Khan of Fortune Barishal bagged two wickets at the cost of 30 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket for 32 runs.
Earlier, Barishal had a formidable start with openers Saif Hasan and Tamim Iqbal piling up 87 runs in the opening stand before Saif Hasan was trapped leg before wicket by Mosaddek Hossain.
After Mosaddek’s departure, Tamim Iqbal could not stay at the crease for a long period as Tamim Iqbal was caught & bowled by Mosaddek Hossain.
After that Fortune Barishal failed to build any remarkable partnership.
Saif Hasan cracked a fine 46. His 33-ball innings was ornamented with six fours and two sixes.
Tamim Iqbal played a captain’s knock of 43. He hit five fours in his 39-ball knock.
Third-down Afif Hossain remained unbeaten with 28. His 16-ball innings saw three fours and a sixer.
Mosaddek Hossain, Sanjit Saha and Ziaur Rahman of Gazi Group Chattogram bagged a pair of wickets each for 16, 22 and 25 runs respectively.
