Comilla Victorians composed an easy seven-wicket win over Chittagong Vikings in their match of the 3rd Bangladesh Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Chasing Chittagong’s total of 176 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Comilla Victorians sailed home making 177 for the loss of three wickets remaining with seven balls.
Comilla made a sorrow start as they lost their early two wickets for 10 runs.
Then Marlon Samuels and Shuvagata Hom rescued their team from early debacle contributing together 44 runs in the third wicket stand before Shuvagata Hom was caught by TM Dilshan off Shafiul Islam when Comilla’s score was 54 for the loss of three wickets.
Later, Marlon Samuels and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza built a worthy partnership. They added together 123 runs in the unbroken fourth wicket stand and guided their team to reach the winning spot.
Marlon Samuels remained undefeated with 69. His 52-ball innings was laced with eight fours and a six while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza remained unbeaten with 56. His 32-ball stormy innings was ornamented with three sixes and four fours. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Shuvagata Hom hit a quick-fire 30 from 16 balls featuring four fours and two sixes.
Mohammad Amir of Chittagong Vikings bagged a couple of wickets at the cost of 27 runs.
Earlier, Chittagong Vikings made a solid start with Tamim Iqbal and TM Dilshan the two openers put on together 63 runs before TM Dilshan was caught at the point by Imrul Kayes off Ashar Zaidi.
After dismissal of Dilshan, Tamim could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught at the long-off by Mahmudul Hasan off Ashar Zaidi when Chittagong’s total was 79 for the loss of two wickets.
Later, Anamul Haque and Yasir Ali added together 39 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Yasir Ali (22) was stumped out by Liton Das off Sunil Narine when Chittagong’s score was 123 for the loss of four wickets.
After departure of Yasir Ali, Anamul Haque and Ziaur Rahman added together 53 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership.
Ziaur Rahman remained undefeated with 39. His 16-ball typhoon innings was decorated with three sixes and two fours while Anamul Haque remained unbeaten with 59. His 30-ball knock was laced with four fours.
Besides, TM Dilshan and Tamim Iqbal added 36 and 33 runs respectively to the Chittagong total.
Ashar Zaidi bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 29 runs while Sunil Narine and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took one wicket each for 29 and 30 runs respectively.
