he whole process of putting your baby to sleep can be a little (read a lot) overwhelming. From holding them carefully, so as to not hurt the little one, to putting them to bed on time, parenting is no child’s play. Let’s be honest, when your baby is not sleeping, you are not getting any sleep either. So what do you do then?
How to make your baby sleep quickly?
Getting a sufficient amount of sleep is not only essential for your newborn, but also for the stay-at-home parent, who is taking care of the baby. So, in order to ensure that your baby’s sleep needs are getting fulfilled, there are certain things you must do. We are sharing a few of these tips and tricks which will help you and your little one get the much-needed shut-eye.
1) Make a sleep time routine
A soothing night time routine can prepare your baby to sleep on time. This routine can include anything from singing a lullaby to giving them a warm bath with a washcloth. When you repeat this schedule night after night, your little one will get to know that it is time to sleep.
2) Get enough sunlight in the room
Newborns have a hard time discriminating between day and night. Make sure that you get enough sunlight inside the house during the day to train their body clock. You may also take your baby outside during the day time to familiarise them with the sunlight.
3) Soothing essential oils
First and foremost, we suggest that you have a word with a paediatrician regarding the same. Since a lot of essentials oils are well known for their soothing and relaxing fragrances, you can put a drop or two of lavender essential oil, near where your baby sleeps to help him/her fall asleep quickly.
4) Do not switch on the light
If your baby wakes up at night, do not carry him/her to a bright room or turn on the lights, instead try rocking your baby gently till he or she is sleepy again.
5) Avoid eye contact
Babies are an interactive lot, so when you maintain eye contact with your little one, he/she tends to get excited and engaged. So try to avoid your baby’s gaze when you are trying to get him/her to sleep.
6) Massage your baby
What is more relaxing than getting a soothing, warm massage? Things are no different for your baby. So, if you want your newborn to sleep on time, inculcate 15 minutes of gentle massaging in the night time routine.
7) Using soothing voice
This one is a no-brainer as talking to your baby in a hush-hush tone can actually accelerate the whole process of putting your baby to sleep. Shhing your child or speaking softly can remind your newborn of the times he/she was safely tucked inside your womb and can be very soothing.
