15-pt suggestions by educationists unveiled: Common questions likely by 2019

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Monday said, the Ministry is going to prepare easy-to-read textbooks aiming at developing the standards of education following the 15-point recommendations of the educationists.
 “The educationists suggested that once a textbook has been finalised by the designated committee, it should be edited by a prominent writer or an education specialist to smooth out the text for reading. We are thinking so,” he said.
The Minister said this at a press conference in the Auditorium of the Education Ministry on Monday.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, former Adviser to the Caretaker Government Rasheda K Chowdhury, Secretary to the Education Ministry Sohrab Hossain were present at the press briefing, among others. Excluding examinations on Arts and Crafts, Physical Education, Health Science and Sports and Carrier Education at Secondary School Certificate level for reducing pressure on students; launching ‘Reading book day’; introducing ‘question item bank’ for improving the quality of MCQ and creative questions, providing teachers guide in accurate time were among the recommendations.
The educationists made the recommendations during a two-day seminar held over improving the quality of secondary education at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar on November 25-26.
The Minister said steps would be taken later to implement the recommendations made by the experts.
We think that common question papers for all Boards can be implemented by 2019, and a team will work over the results of 2017 SSC exams to make view of standard score system,” Nahid said.
 “To improve the formulation of question papers, we will build an item bank,” he added.
The Minister informed the media that the Ministry is going to introduce common question papers for all Boards in the Secondary Certificate Examination from 2019.
 “We think that common question papers for all Boards can be implemented by 2019, and a team will work for that,” he said.
