Right bodies call for easing the complexity of the tax level of cigarettes for reduction of tobacco consumption and for improving public health.
They made call while speaking view exchange meeting in the city on Friday, said a press release.
Like the previous year, a week-long ‘National Tobaco-free’ campaign was launched across the country with a view to creating awareness among the people about harmful of the smoking.
The Alliance for FCTC Implementation of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Ati-Tobaco Alliance are jointly observing the week-long campaign across the country from October 9-15.
As part of the programme, they held hold views exchanges meetings and form human chain at all cities and municipalities to create awareness among the people, organizers said.
They said around one lakh people have been died and over four lakh people have been paralyzed every year in the country due to the impact of the smoking.
Reducing the complex tax system of cigarettes gradually and making a simple tax structure of it like in the international arena needed to come down tobacco consumption and to improve public health, they added.
