There is no alternative to community-based early preparedness and efficient emergency response management system for reducing the risks of natural disasters, loss of lives and damage of properties.
The views were expressed at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day training of Master Trainers on Tuesday organised under the ‘Enhancing Inclusive Disaster Resilience in Bangladesh (EIDRB)’ project at the training centre of NGO Forum in the city.
Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and ‘Pollishree’ have been jointly
organizing the ToT for forming district level Master Trainers’ Pool with assistance of the Department of Disaster Management.
The National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiatives (NARRI) Consortium with Oxfam-GB has been funding the project to institutionalise Community-based Disaster Management Preparedness (CBDP) and School Based Disaster Preparedness (SBDP) Models.
Deputy Secretary of the Department of Disaster Management Mahbubar Rahman attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar in the chair.
A total of 43 participants, including officials of the district
administration and City Corporation, education officers, fire service and civil defense personnel, school teachers, members of four ward-level Disaster Management Committees and volunteers are participating at the training session.
