Early detection to combat breast cancer underscored

Speakers at a programme emphasised on early detection of breast cancer and its subsequent proper treatment to prevent the deadly disease in the country.
A project ‘Strengthening Health, Applying Research Evidence (SHARE) run by icddr,b in collaboration with Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum organized the open dialogue titled, “Breast Cancer: Awareness and Prevention” at TSC cafeteria in the city on the thirteenth instant. Moderator of the programme and Associate Professor of National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital Dr. M Habibullah Talukder Raskin said, “The sufferings caused by the cancer alongside the rate of mortality and morbidity could be reduced to a greater extent through early detection, timely and full-course treatment”.
He viewed that breast cancer is a major cause of cancer related mortality of women in developing countries like Bangladesh.
Project Director of SHARE project Dr ATM Iqbal Anwar, Principal Scientific Officer of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr Mushtuq Husain were present, among others.
The speakers stressed the need for creating awareness against breast cancer and said women of the country are not adequately aware about breast cancer.
