Aiming at ensuring effective utilization of people’s money, the government has made the procurement system fully transparent.
For this, the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Planning Commission has implemented Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system, said a press release.
With this, transparency, efficiency and competition in public procurement have been ensured in procurement process thus enhancing competence as the process has to be completed within stipulated timeframe.
Faruque Hossain, Director General of the CPTU and Additional Secretary said this while visiting the stall of the IMED-CPTU at the Development Fair-2018 that started at the International Trade Fair ground at Agargaon in the city on Thursday.
With the theme ‘Indomitable Bangladesh in Advancement of Development’, the fair is showcasing the government’s development activities and achievements made so far in its journey by its various departments and agencies at 330 stalls towards making Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.
Talking to media, Faruque Hossain said, the CPTU under IMED has been working rigorously for effective implementation of the government’s development programmes through strong monitoring. Since e-GP is an electronic system, there is no scope of manipulation and so it has ensured ‘value for money.’
“The number of tenders invited through e-GP system has crossed 2 lakh. Since introduction in 2011, the number stood at 200,940,” he said adding, “e-GP system has grown very fast. So far, 1,253 out of a total of 1,324 procuring agencies were connected to e-GP.”
