Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that he was deceived by an e-commerce firm while buying a sacrificial cow during Eid-ul- Azha last year.
The minister revealed the information while addressing a workshop, organised by the Bangladesh Competition Commission and the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF), in the capital on Sunday. He said that during the inauguration of an e-commerce site, he ordered a cow for one lakh taka from the firm. However, the company later delivered him a different cow at a lower price.
“Later, I was delivered another cow for Tk 87,000 and a goat for Tk 13,000,” he said.
Regarding the recent controversies on e-commerce sites, the minister said that action will be taken against fraudulent e-commerce companies through proper law.
“Amendments to the law and policy are being discussed in this regard,” he added.
The commerce minister also noted that the role of media and journalists is very important in creating awareness among the public regarding e-commerce activities.
“Digital commerce is becoming popular worldwide. In Digital Bangladesh, there is no option to stay behind. There is no chance of shutting down e-commerce sector because of a few rogue organizations,” he added.
