Business Desk :Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) appointed a Korean consultant firm to rehabilitate and expand a total of 376 kilometers water pipelines of the areas under MODS Zone-6. The work areas are Fakirapool, Malibagh, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Rampura and adjacent areas, says a press release. In this regard, Dhaka WASA and the concerned Korean firm Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting Company Ltd signed a deal at a city hotel on Sunday. Managing Director of DWASA Engr Taqsem A Khan and Bangladesh Representative of Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting Company Ltd. Wui Jae Kim signed the contract. Korean Charge de Affairs Kim Hyun Joo was present as guest of honour on this occasion. Asian Development Bank will finance the project which will start from April 2015. After completion of this project of 16 District Metering Area (DMA), the quality of supplied water through new pipelines will be ensured as well as system loss will remarkably come down. The Korean Charge de Affairs Kim Hyun Joo in his speech assured to provide continuous support of his country, especially in water supply know-how and experience sharing between the two countries. Engr Taqsem Khan said, Dhaka WASA brought many notable changes in water supply system and its overall activities. Gradually Dhaka WASA is moving towards the environment-friendly, sustainable and people-oriented water supply system.Currently, Dhaka WASA has been producing 242 crore liters of water per day against the demand of 230 crore liters. ADB’s Senior Urban Development Specialist Manoj Sharma, Bangladesh representative of Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting Company Ltd Wui Jae Kim and Dhaka WASA’s DESWSP Project Director Md Mahmudul Hasan also spoke on the occasion.
